Climate Action Lab
Despite the well-known sense of urgency on climate change and global commitments of significant resources, the need for more action and philanthropic investment remains. Join the Climate Action Lab to connect with committed peers investing in climate issues and interventions, to learn and share what’s working, and to consider the role you can play as a climate champion.
The Climate Action Lab (CAL), co-designed by Forward Global and longtime climate funder Steve Toben, connects funders who are eager to learn, connect, and share what’s working in climate. As a group committed to climate action during this critical next decade, the CAL aims to mobilize significant resources and energy toward climate strategies including mitigation, adaptation and sequestration. We have an enormous opportunity to shift the climate narrative from one of doom and failure to hope and action, including concrete successes that can be replicated and resonate beyond Forward Global. It’s an all-hands-on deck moment and everyone can be a climate funder, so please join us.
As a CAL member, you participate in monthly sessions that alternate between (1) 60-90 minute plenary sessions with climate topic experts exploring approaches, and (2) 60-minute CAL Workshops of peer discussion, including your experiences and decisions. Upon joining, these sessions will automatically be added to your calendar. Note that we take a short summer hiatus.
You are also added to the climate@forward-global.org listserv, which members use to request advice, share upcoming opportunities (learning or investment opportunities), send articles and resources, etc. Our goal is to help each other stay informed, curious and action-oriented as climate funders. We know this work can be daunting at times, so connection helps us stay motivated.
If you are open to learning about high-impact climate opportunities and best practices, sharing more about your strategy, investments and decisions, and are committing climate funding – or will commit within the next year, this is a group for you. Each member brings their own unique experience, questions, and approach, and it’s the trading of what’s working, what’s not, and openness to asking questions and supporting one another that make the group a valuable space. Better connected climate funders, even if working in very different areas, better support the climate ecosystem.
Members are welcome to join at any point in the year. While you do not need to join for every session, you can gain more from and contribute more to the group by consistently showing up and getting to know your fellow members too. Join for what you can and invite your peers who are climate-curious too.
