Democracy Action Lab | Building Political Power in the Native Community

Despite profound mistrust in the federal government and significant barriers to voting, Indigenous peoples are incredibly politically engaged, with 77% participating in the last election (local, state, and/or federal). Judith Le Blanc, Executive Director of the Native Organizers Alliance, will share how Native communities have shifted key elections results in battleground states through their work to protect public lands and achieve tribal sovereignty. This year, NOA plans to place and support 200 active “moccasins on the ground” in swing states, working with over 15 partner organizations to mobilize voters and increase democratic participation. To build power over the longer term, NOA is also building a support ecosystem for Indigenous leaders to collaborate and learn together.

We will have 15-minute pre-session “office hours” at 9:45am PST | 12:45pm EST open to anyone interested in joining early to ask specific democracy-related questions of our facilitators and/or Forward Global peers (or simply to say hello).
