Global Democracy Series: A vision for a deeper democracy
December 8 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm UTC-5
Much of the democracy field is defensive. Our instinct is often to protect status quo institutions and systems, even when masses of citizens vote to say those systems no longer work for them.
The moment demands that we ask, what are we fighting for? What would a deeper democracy 2.0 look like, which improves on all the ways in which our existing systems are not working?
Citizens assemblies, participatory budgeting, and AI-powered citizen engagement can all be part of the answer, but have to fit within an overarching vision – one which is sufficiently compelling to compete with alternatives offered by the far-right.
In this session we will hear from One Project’s work at the intersection of AI, democracy, “New Economy” and place-based community-building. We will hear from place-based experiments in participatory budgeting and other innovations, and how they can inspire this wider vision
