New Economy Action Lab: What is the New Economy Movement? Register

April 3 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm UTC+0

Join the opening session of the New Economy Action Lab to explore what the “New Economy” movement is and how it cuts across various philanthropic cause areas.

The New Economy Action Lab (NEAL) will build on the efforts of the Equity & Justice Action Lab to understand the role of funders and wealth-holders in contributing to social justice, starting from the premise that diversity and inclusion initiatives are not a substitute for deeper structural change. Like the New Economy movement itself, the Action Lab will take a broad, intersectional focus, including:

  • Transforming financial systems
  • Transforming business practice
  • Just Transition & climate justice
  • Racial justice & reparations
  • Community wealth-building and ownership
  • Work and equitable access to employment
  • Technology for good
  • Narrative change for systems change

This initial session focuses on the question of “What is the New Economy?”. In this opening session we will:

  • Hear why Forward Global’s Equity & Justice Action Lab has evolved to focus on the New Economy
  • Discuss what is the “New Economy” movement and how it overlaps with other movements including the Just Transition, Reparative Justice & Community Wealth-Building movements
  • Share personal introductions and join breakouts discussing how existing socioeconomic systems influence our funding focus areas

Speakers include two leaders in the new economy space who were part of Forward Global’s 2024 Summit Advisory Group: Anna Muoio of the New Capitalism Project (NCP) – based in the US, and Ayeisha Thomas-Smith of New Economy Organisers Network (NEON) – based in the UK.

We will meet Wednesday, April 3 at 9:00am PDT | 12:00pm EDT | 5:00pm BST for 60 minutes. If you have any questions, please contact Sam Underwood at
