This interactive session of the Family Table will feature family business consultant and conflict management expert, Doug Baumoel. Doug has spent the past 20 years helping enterprising families to navigate the challenges of owning and managing wealth together, whether it be a foundation, a business, an investment portfolio, or a trust. Doug will talk about what makes conflict in enterprising families so difficult, what triggers conflict and how to manage through it all. The session will draw on learnings and insights from Doug’s book, co-written by Blair Trippe, Deconstructing Conflict: Understanding Family Business, Shared Wealth, and Power.

Biography
Doug Baumoel, Founder of Continuity Family Business Consulting, is a recognized expert in family business conflict management. Doug draws from his extensive experience in starting and managing businesses in both the U.S. and Europe, where he successfully established and led the European offices of his second-generation family enterprise. He developed a structured approach for analyzing family business conflict and co-authored Deconstructing Conflict with Blair Trippe, a key guide in the field. Doug’s insights have appeared in publications including Family Business Magazine and Harvard’s Negotiation Journal, and he frequently speaks at venues including Harvard Law School, Cornell, and corporate sponsored events. He is recognized as a Fellow of both the Family Firm Institute (FFI) and the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and is a Practitioner Scholar with Cornell’s Smith Family Business Initiative. Additionally, he holds a certificate in Mediation from MCLE and is a graduate of NACD’s Director Professionalism program. Doug also served as President of the New England chapter of the Family Firm Institute and has been recognized by FFI in receiving the 2023 Interdisciplinary Award. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Cornell.
In addition to consulting, Doug is a board member for One Family Inc., supporting families facing homelessness, and serves on the boards of a foundation and a family-owned technology firm. Doug resides in Beverly, Massachusetts, with his family, and enjoys performing jazz guitar at charity events.
