While the US pro-democracy movement has grown in size, creativity, and importance over the past several years, many of the sharpest threats since 2020 are still very present: extremism, mis- and disinformation, and voter suppression. What is the state of American democracy today – particularly regarding authoritarian threats to our elections – and what can donors do about it? Joanna Lydgate, President & CEO of States United Democracy Center, a nonpartisan organization committed to protecting elections, holding democracy violators accountable, preventing political violence, and promoting truth in elections, will join us to take a look back at 2023 and a look ahead to 2024.
The guiding question for the Democracy Action Lab is: What strategies and interventions will contribute to the long-term vitality of liberal democracy in the United States and around the world? In every session, we combine conversation with peers, deep dive learning with leaders from the field, and interactive discussion to operationalize learning into action.
We will have 15-minute pre-session “office hours” at 9:45am PST | 12:45pm EST open to anyone interested in joining early to ask specific democracy-related questions of our facilitators and/or TPW peers (or simply to say hello).
