Everyone’s Story Can Benefit Humanity

Tim and Pamela Kashani built their partnership on wonder. On their first date, they shopped for toys for children in need at Christmastime. That simple act set the tone for a life of giving back through the arts.
In 2008, they co-founded Apples and Oranges Arts, a nonprofit that brings storytelling, technology, and uplifting action into the same room. Through their latest effort, StorIAccelerator, they equip social-impact creators to use AI and other emerging tools without losing their voice. StorIAccelerator also sets the stage for an upcoming project that will open fresh paths for technologists and storytellers working toward positive change.
The Kashanis see stories as a force that shapes the arc of progress in how we unite one another and grow empathy.
A Partnership Rooted in Purpose
From day one, Tim and Pamela treated their work as a true creative partnership. Pamela brings Broadway and television experience, classical training, and a gift for emotional nuance. Tim brings the technologist’s appetite for experimentation, plus a director and producer’s instinct for scale and momentum.
“Tim’s the macro, I’m the micro,” Pamela says. “He’s the big picture, I’m the moment-to-moment.” That balance has fueled their collaboration since they launched Apples and Oranges in 2008. Together, they produced Tony Award-winning Broadway shows (Hair, Memphis, and An American in Paris), made two feature films and a TV series, wrote a STEM-inspired musical, raised a child, and built global technology education initiatives. Every chapter points back to the same through line: innovation that uplifts.
AI now reshapes how audiences discover art and how creators develop it. Tim and Pamela hear the anxiety many artists feel as these tools grow more capable. Rather than resist the moment, they choose leadership and invite artists into the conversation.
“Technology keeps opening new possibilities. AI will reshape our world, whether we feel ready or not,” Tim says. “But the real story reaches beyond automation and efficiency. Imagination drives this era. We bring storytellers and philanthropists to the table to guide what AI becomes.
Pamela frames the moment through humanity. “Storytelling has never been separate from technology; it has evolved with every tool we’ve had. But when you bring artistry to that process, that’s when you really move people. That’s when change happens.”
With support from Forward Global, including matching grant funding through the Women’s Power and Influence initiative, the Kashanis scaled their platform to create more stories and educate more creators through StorIAccelerator, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. The platform launched its first cohort in autumn 2025 and blends artistic development with technical training, helping storytellers harness AI while staying authentic.
Next, the Kashanis plan to expand the pipeline for impact-driven storytelling: new ways for creators, curators, and community builders to develop work, find aligned partners, and reach audiences ready to act. They stand at the intersection of entertainment, technology, and philanthropy—and they keep building toward a future where storytelling drives measurable good.
Powered by Partnership, Sustained by Community
Even with creative success, their philanthropic path didn’t move in a straight line. “We thought we could bootstrap a nonprofit the way we built our businesses,” Tim says. “But the nonprofit world plays by different rules. There were times we thought we might shut it down.”
A TED conference connection changed the trajectory. There, they met Renee Kaplan and learned about Forward Global, an experience Tim describes as “a lifeline.” Through peer conversations, Action Labs, and aligned partnerships, they found the community they had been missing: people who paired big-hearted ambition with practical know-how.
“We met people trying to make a difference, who were also asking the same existential questions,” Pamela says. “We realized we’re not alone. And although sometimes the arts can be conceived as less important than other global needs, among philanthropists of all interests, we feel completely at home here.”
That belonging also brought strategy. In the Forward Global AI for Humanity Action Lab, they met collaborators who share their conviction: we’ve entered a new era, and storytellers must help shape it.
Pamela says, “Forward Global connected us to people who ask hard questions, share openly, and are trying to make the world better in very real ways.” Tim and Pamela now aim to pay that forward by guiding artists through an AI-centric era with clarity, dignity, and creative power.
A Moment to Shine
AI accelerates cultural change while misinformation and weaponized narratives spread faster than ever. The world needs better, truer, clearer storytelling, and they believe creators can use AI to raise the signal, not amplify the noise.
“We need to go back to the campfire,” Tim says. “We need shared narratives that help us navigate uncertainty. Storytelling with impact provides our survival toolkit.”
Their vision centers on scaling voices that illuminate issues and spark action. They help creators, artists, activists, and community leaders own their stories, use new technology with intention, and build bridges of understanding.
“So many of us have a story that can benefit humanity,” Pamela says. “That story deserves to be heard.”
